Sensei Phipps and Wilson course
Following the cancellation of the weekend course with Sensei Terry O'Neill (7th Dan), a replacement course on Sunday 21st was held with Sensei Phipps 7th Dan and Sensei Wilson 5th Dan. Sensei Wilson took the under 16's and worked on basic Kumite routines, with Sensei Phipps taking the over 16's group working on the use of Juji Uke (X-block) in advanced Kumite/self-defence routines. New addition to the family!
Natasha and Steve Collinson's new little boy, William Andrew, arrived into the world on Monday 1st November at 9.24am. He weighed in at 7lbs 5ozs and came into the world with a strong kiai! Many congratulations to all three from all in SSKI. What size gi shall we get him Tash?
Dennis Martin - Knife and Edged Weapon Course
S.S.K.I recently hosted a knife and edged weapon defence course with the legendary Dennis Martin, an expert in close quarter combat. A full report of the course can be seen here.
W.T.K.O Events for 2005
S.S.K.I are pleased to announce its involvement in the following World Traditional Karate Organisation (WTKO) events planned for 2005.
April 23rd/24th at Hemel Hempstead Honbu Dojo - WTKO Masters Seminar/course with Sensei Richard Amos 6th Dan (Renshi) and Sensei John Mullin 7th Dan (Kyoshi) followed by the WTKO English Invitational Championships.
May 28th/29th in Romania - WTKO Masters Seminar/course with Sensei Richard Amos 6th Dan (Renshi) and Sensei John Mullin 7th Dan (Kyoshi) followed by the WTKO European Championships.
October 22nd/23rd - WTKO World Championships in Macedonia.
November (date tbc) - WTKO North America Open Championships - Staten Island, New York.

Executive Committee honoured
During a break at the 19th S.S.K.I National Championships, Sensei Malcolm Phipps 7th Dan (Kyoshi) announced that following his nomination, the International Shotokan-ryu Karate-do Shihankai (I.S.K.S) have accepted Sensei Steve Wilson 5th Dan, Sensei Kevin Thurlow 5th Dan and Sensei Tony Bunting 5th Dan as I.S.K.S Fellows.
This means that all three Sensei have had their 5th Dan grades recognised internationally and are now members of the I.S.K.S International Council of Shotokan Masters, who can officially adopt the title of 'Saiko Shihan' (International Master).
This is an exceptional award and a great honour for the Executive Committee Sensei.

S.S.K.I National Championships (updated - 27th Oct)
On October 17th 2004, S.S.K.I held its 19th National Championships at the Honbu Dojo in Hemel Hempstead. The day was well attended with entries from the Hemel, Harlow, Slip End, Winnersh, Borehamwood, Luton and Kent clubs.
An excellent standard of Shotokan Karate was demonstrated on the day in both Kata and Kumite.
